Abstract

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of international students studying at higher education institutions across the globe. Most international students studied in Western English-speaking countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. However, Russian universities have also successfully attracted international students, making Russia the sixth-largest country in the world regarding the number of international students studying in its universities. To better understand the experiences and challenges faced by international students studying and living in Russia, the researcher conducted a systematic review of published literature on the topic. The study aimed to uncover the motivations behind international students' decision to come to Russia and their experiences and challenges while studying and living there. The researcher used a systematic review methodology to ensure accuracy, depth, and objectivity and established several criteria for selecting studies to include in the research paper. The information gathered was analyzed and classified into three themes, each with several subheadings, resulting in 20 topics related to the experiences and expertise of international students in Russia. The study found that international students chose to study and live in Russia for various reasons, such as affordable tuition and living costs, compared to other Western countries. However, international students in Russia face numerous linguistic, academic, social, psychological, and economic challenges.
